Text Me When You Get Home (2021)
This performance explores what it means to gather, through certain quotidian events that involve groups but centre around a singular experience. This piece unfolds during a walk from a cemetery to AXENÉO7 and employs the audience's mobile devices to follow a narrative. While my narrative is pre-recorded, the central conceit addresses going to a theatre while living in Helsinki, and watching the movie It Follows by myself during the longest day of the year. Video is involved using the platform Zoom and screen sharing. Visual and auditory cues point to what is live and pre-recorded, with audiences being invited to use their phone camera on at certain points to reveal their surroundings on the walk. The performance occupies physical space and virtual space, and dips between contrasting times, past and present, literary and cinematic, all while remaining outdoors.
Performed September 29 2021, part of PERF, AXENÉO7's performance biennial. Curated by Fait Maison (Anna Khimasia and Thomas Grondin). This performance involved viewers following me/joining me on a walk while listening to pre-recorded audio through Zoom on their phones. Photographs by Jonathan Lorange.
